I have always wanted a Corvette! Every time my wife and I would drive by one, I would say, “When I win the lotto, I am going buy one!”
Well I did not win the Lotto, but I am now the proud owner of a 2008 Indy 500 Pace Car Replica! I occasionally check the local dealer website for used cars and saw a Burnt Orange 2008 with low miles at a good price! Being UT (University of Texas) fans, my wife and I decided to go look.
We walked in and saw a familiar salesman and asked him about it. He said there were a couple problems. First, the car was not Burnt Orange and second, the price was wrong! We decided to look anyway. As we walked to the back lot of the dealership, he grabbed the sales manager who sold the car new in 2008.
He told us all about this Corvette. It was an Indy 500 replica, signed by Indy driver Emerson Fittipaldi, it was #406 of 500 and only 1500 miles on it. Yes that is right - 1 5 0 0 miles! The guy who bought it rarely drove it! Oh and manual transmission. Of the 500 made, only 73 were manual transmissions! Well, after a bit of haggling we decided to buy it!
It took them several days to go through the car front to back, replacing various parts due to age not wear! So I am now the proud owner of a new-to-me 2008 C6 Corvette! Now maybe things will reverse and since I bought the car, I will win the lotto!
