It All Started In 1953

Jim Hildebrand

It all started for me in 1953.  My Dad and I were having lunch when he noticed in the paper that Chevrolet was coming out with a fiberglass car. I was only 13 at the time, but I was hooked. It wasn’t until 14 years later that my dream came true and I bought my first Corvette: a 1967 convertible, Goodwood green with a green interior. But then the 1968s came out and I felt like I owned an old car.

I traded that one in for a 1969 that I kept until Chevrolet started making convertibles again. In 1986, I traded in the 1969 for my present Corvette, a 1986 convertible, white with a red interior. I’ve been a member of NCCC since 1967, and was honored to be their president in 1971 & 1972. I am currently the Governor of the Bay Area Corvette Club in Clearwater, FL, where I’ve been a member since 1993! My “baby” has 217,000 miles on her and with a new paint job, new seats and a glass window top, and she still purrs like a kitten. I love my baby, but damn those new C7s look good!
