My Dream Has Come True!

Howard Cooper

As a teenager growing up in the muscle car years, I was fortunate enough to meet older people who would let me hang out with them and work on their cars. From GTXs to Corvettes and even Road Runners, I was exposed to a nice variety! We would pull engines, change clutches and rebuild rear ends.

I always had a passion for a particular 1969 427/500 Corvette coupe with M22, Custom Side pipes, L88 hood, custom paint. I jumped at the chance to ride in one and I vowed that one day I would own one. It took a while, but in 2006 on my 50th birthday, my wife and I decided it was time! I bought a 1973, 350 L82 4 speed, 3.70 differential with no options.

I knew it had issues, like a rusted frame, but the rest of the car was intact and unmolested, still wearing about 70% of its original Blue/Green paint with Dark Saddle interior. It even had a numbers matching drivetrain! I spent 2 years replacing the frame and restoring the chassis. Everything has been sandblasted, epoxy primed and painted. It was reassembled using new stainless brake and fuel lines, Moog steering components, Just Suspension poly bushings, Addco Sway bars, BFG 255-60-15 tires among other things.

I have been driving it since 2008, working on it as I go, and attending cruises and car shows. You meet so many great people at these events, with that same passion for Corvettes and collector cars! Last summer I built a 454 so I could put the 350 away for safe keeping and have some fun without worrying about damaging the motor. The 454 is .030 over, decked, align honed, ARP Fasteners, Speed pro pistons with 10.5 compression, Large oval port aluminum heads, Crane Cam, Headman 2" Headers, Quick Fuel 750 CFM Carb.
